Twofer birds

I'm just squeaking in under the wire for Darnell's Twofer challenge and this month it's birds.

For card 1 my background was created at a recent craft technique get together with Loll and Susan.  I sprayed the colours onto mixed media card, these aren't my usual choice but I like it.
I then stamped the background flower image (Magenta) using gesso, sponge the gesso onto the stamp, It's quite thick so won't work with stamps that have too much detail. Allow  the gesso to dry, and don't forget to clean your stamp with a little water and a brush before the gesso dries.
The white areas are the stamped image which picks up a little of the background ink softening the whiteness. I stamped and fussy cut the bird on a branch (magenta stamp) and coloured with watercolours. The birthday sentiment (Stampin up retired) blurred a little as the gesso gives a little texture to the surface.

Here is a close up of the bird against the background.
Fussy cutting tip, use a marker to edge the cut surface it helps finish the image and looses the white areas outside the lines.

Here is my 2nd card, this one a little more CAS. I stamped the bird watercoloured it, I then masked it and used a stencil (Magenta) to create the rays of sunshine. This is a thinking of you card.

'The sentiment for this card is from Chocolate Baroque.

How fun your get-togethers must be with Lolly and Susan! The background you made for your birthday card is gorgeous in pinks and oranges! It looks like it was made special for your beautifully colored Magenta bird and you did an excellent job of fussy-cutting! I also love your CAS early morning design with the sun rising behind the bird on your TOY design!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #12! Hugs, Darnell

OMG! These are stunning creations! I love that BG and the painted birds are so beautiful... Love how you gave the bird on the second card a burst of sunlight and it really pops!

great cards...love the look
Quick Question...did you put Gesso directly onto the stamp and then onto the bkg? Curious.
thanks,
Karen

What a fabulous Twofer! Love both of them - great use of one of those backgrounds we made at Loll's for the first card, and a wonderful CAS design for the second.

There sure are a lot of different ways to make interesting backgrounds! I must have gone back and forth between your explanation and the picture a dozen times on your first card. Very pretty! Lovely bird, beautifully colored. The sun rays on your second card are like a ray of hope, saying somehow all will turn out okay in the end. Christine, I'm happy to see your cards in our Twofer Birds Challenge!

Who but you would have thought to stamp in gesso. I need to bring that out more often. Gorgeous job watercoloring both birds. I am intrigued by your spectacular red background but love the simplicity of the stenciled on too.

How lovely to craft with Loll and Susan! The background you've created for your first card is simply stunning; all those beautiful colors work so wonderfully with your pretty bird. And I do admire the perfect fussy cutting you've done, too. Your second card is watercolored so perfectly. That's such a pretty bird stamp and I was happy to see him in the gallery! Thanks for joining us at the Twofer Challenge! Bev

Awesome cards Christine. I love how your background turned out from our play date last week. Looks amazing with the white stamping and your coloured and fussy-cut bird. Great work! Second card is fantastic with the sun ray stenciled background. The stenciling adds so much depth and brings the bird forward. Two fabulous cards! Thanks for sharing with us at Twofer Card Challenge! xx
